Hymie is 24 years old and has a few dents and dings but is very honest, a fantastic runner & starts first time every time.
We have owned her for over 4 years and my father for about 5 years before that so she’s been in the family for nearly 10 years.
MOT till April 2018.
She was reupholstered about 11 years ago and the fabric is very plain brown and beige so unlike many of these classic Hymers it is really neutral inside.
We fitted a new fridge (£600) 2 years ago, new leisure battery (£100) last week (June 2017) and she was recently serviced.
If you travel with your kids an important consideration in old Hymers is the lack of decent rear seat belts. We weren't happy with the flimsily fitted lap belts in the back so we had professionally fitted two 3 point seat-belts. They are mounted on a steel A-frame bolted to the chassis and are much safer than the previous lap belts, for additional safety we fitted head rests too.
Hymie has all the usual Hymer features like drop down bed over cab, rear kitchen, Truma blown heating and hot water, bench seats that convert to 2 singles, fold down table, Thetford toilet in separate shower room, bike rack, window fly screens and pull up black out blinds, tasteful curtains, loads of storage, 12v/240v systems, silver window covers, extendable tv aerial, Fiamma wind out awning & 2 sets of keys. Many of the lights are LED & I fitted a good quality stereo with DAB and Bluetooth so you can stream from your phone & there are speakers in the cab and living area. Both doors have additional external Fiamma locks.
I've got loads of documentation like original manuals and bills for work done over the years.
Everything works as it should except in the bathroom where the tap doesn't work any more. I think the microswitch has gone. It hasn't bothered us much though as the toilet works perfectly and we use the kitchen tap & sink if we need to.
We are reluctantly passing Hymie on because our daughter is now 12 and we are looking for a newer van with a different layout, we're thinking rear lounge, so that she can have her own space.
We’ve loved this van and are really sad to let her go. We’ve used her loads in the UK and have even taken her to Germany, Switzerland & France a few times, with no issues at all. She’s never broken down and has been fantastic, a real home from home.
